Amrut Distilleries is located in Bangalore, India, 3,000 feet above sea level, with its water and barley sourced from Punjab and Rajasthan. Although maturation takes place high above the city, the warm climate means the whisky matures more quickly in India than in Europe or the United States. The proportion lost to evaporation during ageing, known as the angels' share, is also significantly higher in India at 11 to 12 per cent, compared with Scotland where the annual loss is around 2 per cent.

Most Amrut whiskies are said to be less than six years old, yet they have collected a steady stream of awards. The company now finds itself in the enviable position of striving to keep pace with demand, while maintaining its down to earth philosophy of consistently exceeding customer expectations, perhaps the only reliable formula for successfully entering new markets.

This introductory expression is composed of whisky matured in ex-sherry casks, 10 per cent, and ex-bourbon barrels, 90 per cent.
