78 Degrees Muscat Finish Australian Whiskey 700ml
When searching for a fortified wine that truly represents 78°, the choice was close to home. Liqueur Muscat, commonly known simply as Muscat in Australia, is a locally cherished style. Originating from the Rutherglen area in northern Victoria, Muscat is made from late harvest grapes that are partially fermented before being fortified with grape spirit. This process leaves a higher level of residual sugar, creating a sweeter fortified wine.
The Muscat is then matured in oak casks for anywhere between five and more than twenty years. During ageing in Australia’s warm climate, the casks rest under the strong sun, allowing the wine to develop rich, concentrated flavours. The result is a deeply characterful fortified wine with notes of raisins and stewed fruit, making it ideal to enjoy after dinner with a little Australian cheese. After decanting, the empty casks retain the Muscat’s distinctive character, which has gradually soaked into the oak over many years.
