Amrut is situated in Bangalore, India, approximately 3000 feet above sea level, with water and barley sourced from Punjab and Rajasthan. Although maturation takes place high above the city, the hot climate causes whisky to mature more rapidly in India than it does in Europe or the United States. The portion lost to evaporation during ageing, known as the angels’ share, is also higher in India at around 11 to 12 percent, compared with Scotland, where the annual evaporative loss is approximately 2 percent.

Most Amrut whiskies are reportedly less than six years old, yet a steady stream of awards has followed their release. The company is now in the enviable position of keeping up with demand without compromising its down to earth philosophy of consistently exceeding customer expectations. (Is there any other formula for successfully breaking into new markets?)

This introductory expression is composed of whisky matured in ex sherry casks (10 percent) and ex bourbon barrels (90 percent).
