Segredo Aldeia Premium White Rum 750ml
Segredo Aldeia is inspired by the legend of a hidden rum village once tucked away in the tropical woodlands of Portuguese Goa. According to folklore, this rum was part of one of history’s most valuable treasures. The story is reimagined through this expression, crafted not far from where the legend was born.
Distilled by seafarers who understood rum as intimately as they understood the ocean, this spirit originates from a village shrouded in secrecy and maritime tradition.
In April 1721, Levasseur is said to have seized the largest treasure ever recorded in history.
Off the coast of Réunion, the French pirate captured the Nossa Senhora do Cabo, the Bishop of Goa’s vessel. The treasure, valued at over a billion dollars, contained jewels, gold and religious artefacts from the Se Cathedral in Goa, including the Flaming Cross of Goa, a solid gold cross adorned with diamond, ruby and emerald inlays. So substantial was the artefact that it required three men to lift it.
Alongside these treasures were barrels of rum distilled in a village whose existence was known to only a few, and whose name was known to none. A short distance upstream along the Mandovi River lay this secret settlement, called Segredo Aldeia, a haven for those with troubled pasts who spent their days crafting rum and their nights celebrating it.
Drawing upon the rich and diverse heritage of Goa, Segredo Aldeia represents the rebirth of a rum once considered a treasure in its own right.
